Nickel Systems Fasteners for Pulp & Paper Mills

Fasteners for Pulp & Paper Mills

Pulp & Paper Mills in the south eastern and north eastern United States and north western Canada are starting to consider more and more using higher grade nickel alloys and specialty stainless materials in their plants to combat severe corrosion.

Nickel Systems, Inc. is a direct stocking distributor of AL6XN, Duplex 2205, Super Duplex 2507, Hastelloy C276, Inconel 625 and 317L Stainless fasteners. These materials help combat iron contamination and process corrosion at paper mills. We are starting to hear from companies such as Canfor Pulp, Glatfelter, West Rock and many of the equipment manufacturers who service the paper industry.

The use of AL6XN fasteners in bleach plants continues to rise, while Duplex 2205 and Super Duplex 2507 are often used in Kraft Liquor Applications. The “Kraft Process” uses caustic soda and sodium sulfide, whereas the “Sulfite Process” uses sulfurous acids and “Soda Pulping” uses sodium hydroxide.

When manufacturing white paper, the process of bleaching is used which also removes the lignin from the pulp. There are 2 main methods of bleaching: Elemental Chlorine Bleaching and Elemental Chlorine Free Bleaching. Elemental Chlorine Bleaching is a much more corrosive method. Nickel Systems stocks fasteners used in the bleaching process.
