Product Overview

What are Hex Socket Pipe Plugs

Hex socket pipe plugs are threaded fittings used to seal the ends of pipes or fittings. They feature a hexagonal-shaped socket (recess) that allows them to be tightened or removed using a hex key (Allen wrench).

Advantages to Hex Socket Pipe Plugs

Hex socket pipe plugs offer several advantages when compared with hex head pipe plugs & square head pipe plugs.

  • Flush or Low-Profile Fit: Hex socket plugs sit flush or slightly recessed within the fitting or pipe.
  • Better for Confined or Hard-To-Reach Areas: Because of the flush or slightly recessed location, they can be fit into tight spaces where a protruding head cannot fit.
  • Cleaner Appearance: The flush or recessed plugs offer a sleeker, more professional look.
  • Improved Protection against Damage: Since a hex socket pipe plug does not have an external head, it is less susceptible to impacts, corrosion, or accidental knocks.

Applications of Hex Socket Pipe Plugs

Chemical Processing Plants

Subsea & Offshore Platforms

  • Hex socket pipe plugs are used in subsea control systems, pressure manifolds, and valves, where equipment is exposed to saltwater, high pressures, and extreme temperatures.
  • Exotic alloys include Inconel® 625, and 2507 Super Duplex Steel.
  • Industries include oil & gas and energy exploration.

Fuel, Hydraulic, and Pneumatic Systems in Aerospace

  • Hex socket pipe plugs seals access ports in aircraft hydraulic systems, fuel delivery systems, and engine manifolds that experience high temperatures and extreme pressures.
  • Exotic alloys include Inconel® 718 and Titanium Grade 5.
  • Industries include aerospace, defense, & Space exploration.

Marine & Shipbuilding

  • Hex socket pipe plugs are used in ballast systems, seawater cooling lines, and hull piping, where constant exposure to seawater causes sever corrosion.
  • Exotic alloys used are Monel® 400 & 2507 Super Duplex Stainless Steel.
  • Industries include marine engineering, shipbuilding & naval defense.

Power Generation

  • Hex socket pipe plugs seal cooling systems, steam lines, and high-pressure conduits in nuclear reactors or high-efficiency power plants.
  • Exotic alloys include Inconel® 600, Inconel® 625, & Hastelloy® X.
  • Industries include nuclear power, thermal power plants, and renewable energy.

Food & Beverage

  • Hex socket pipe plug in sanitary piping systems where plugs need to withstand cleaning agents, steam sterilization, and acidic / alkaline fluids without contamination.
  • Exotic alloys used include AL-6XN & Titanium Grade 2.
  • Industries include food processing, beverage production and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
