Body Bolts
The term "Body Bolt" means different things
depending on which industry is making reference to them.
In our terminology we are referring to bolts where the
unthreaded portion of the shank, or body, is manufactured
to a very close diameter tolerance and a very specific
length. The main function of the head on a body bolt
is to keep it from pulling through a hole and it is
not used for torquing the part. The function of the
shank is identical to that of a pin in that is intended
to maintain a fixed alignment. The threaded portion
of the bolt, of course, takes a nut which is used to
tighten the assembly.
